Cadillac Ranch, Texas: A Case of Mistaken Identity

I’d heard Cadillac Ranch was somewhere near Amarillo, and I was excited. I’d get to visit a real brothel! I pictured myself schmoozing with the pros, picking up dating tips, maybe even sitting around at the end of the day, swapping stories and passing a bottle. It would be fun in a prostitution-is-only-fun-in-the-movies kind of way: think Paul Newman and Lolita Davidovitch in Blaze. Or Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas.

Oh, wait. And, um, no. Mustang Ranch was the famous (now closed) brothel near Reno, NV. Cadillac Ranch is a bunch of cars stuck in the ground. So, okay. Adjust your expectations.

Nary a hooker in sight.

I’m guessing these are out of warranty.

Since then, taggers have had their way with the classic cars, and layers of fresh graffiti are added all the time. A must see.

Is it art, or just an excuse to break stuff? You be the judge.

As a quasi-related P.S., this sign is on exit 62A, a different kind of commentary:
